I have started to look at my kitchen in a new way after a recent visit from Michael Fenton. The 29-year-old personal trainer has developed an exercise programme for people who haven't got time to go to the gym.
Michael explained to me, as I was trying to serve the children's breakfast and wash up at the same time, that it's just a question of imagination. He decided to use my kitchen as a gym, as this is where I spend most of my time.
We started with a warm-up which involved jogging around the kitchen while cleaning up. Then we lifted lemonade bottles to exercise our arms. This was followed by leg exercises performed while holding on to a chair. After my twenty-minute workout I felt exhausted but very proud of myself. Not only had I exercised, I'd also tidied up the kitchen!
There are other advantages to exercising in the privacy of your own home. You don't have to worry about what you look like or buy expensive sports clothes. You just wear what you stand up in and use household objects as your equipment.
